ふと見上げると　屋根の上
丸くなって猫が眠っています
目が覚めると屋根から屋根へ
屋根から塀へと散歩に出かけ
街の人たちを笑顔にしてくれます


A house in the alley

As you look up, on the roof,
you may find a cat curled sleeping on top.
When it wakes, it may hop from one roof to another,
and stroll down fences on its daily walk.
The cat is what makes the townsfolk smile.

屋根の上で丸くなっている猫は
天気の良い日に出会えるこの街の名物の１つ。
家の出窓はいつも開けられていて、
いつでも自由に出入りしています。

猫の姿がそこにいない時は、
軽やかな足取りで屋根から屋根へ、塀へと
自由に街を散歩しては、出会う人たちを
笑顔にしてくれる、そんなイメージを込めて作りました。


The cat curled up on the roof is
one of the town’s favorite things to see on a nice sunny day.
All the houses have their bay windows open,
so that the cat is free to wander in and out.

When you don’t see the cat on the roof,
you may find it on its walk,
leaping gracefully from roof to roof, and down on to the fences.
The cat is free to walk around town, which makes the townsfolk smile.
Such is the story behind this house.

穀雨店舗がある谷中という地域は昔から猫の街と言われてきました。
どんどん観光地化が進み行き交う人が増え、
表通りでは姿を見かけることがなくなった猫たちですが
今も路地裏では散歩しているのを見かけることがあります。

猫がのんびり暮らす、下町らしい雰囲気がこれからも残って欲しいと思い
屋根の上に猫が昼寝をしている形になりました。

出窓が２つ並ぶ姿はどことなく猫の耳のよう。
